Active funds winning in emerging markets equity

AF Advisors’ consultant Guido Corbeau published an article (in Dutch) on IEXProfs about the best emerging markets equity funds. Active management still delivers value in this asset class.

The list of the best funds is dominated by actively managed funds which delivered returns well above their benchmarks. Nevertheless, two passive funds still made it into the top 10, namely Vanguard FTSE Emerging Markets and SPDR MSCI Emerging Markets. These two funds were by far the cheapest funds among the 10 best funds.

The overall winner was Hermes Global Emerging Markets which delivered high returns in last 3 and 5 years, while maintaining relatively low levels of standard deviation and costs. The second position was taken by already mentioned Vanguard FTSE Emerging Markets and Stewart Investors Global Emerging Market Leaders finished third.
