Sustainable finance regulation
The financial sector will play an important role in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In 2018, the European Commission prepared an action plan for financing sustainable growth. The action plan has resulted in a legislative package consisting of various new laws and changes to existing legislation. The entire financial sector will be affected by this and will deal with new requirements which will come into effect in phases.
The various legislations relating to Sustainable Finance are intertwined. Subjects such as the integration of sustainability risks in investment decisions and risk management, identification of sustainable activities and investments, determination of client’s sustainability preferences and disclosure of information on the sustainability of investment portfolios and funds should not be considered on a standalone basis. Therefore, an integrated approach to the numerous requirements is essential.
AF Advisors’ Regulatory Consultancy team is involved in various Sustainable Finance projects and has supported various investment firms, fund managers, pension funds and banks in the implementation of Sustainable Finance legislation.
