2023, a year of what really?

The asset management industry has had some extraordinary years. But how should we describe 2023? There is often a dominant event that colors a year. Last year that was the end of negative interest rates accompanied by sharply rising inflation. This year could be called “back to the economic norm” with normal interest rates and movement toward normal levels of inflation. On the other hand, not one but two wars on the outskirts of Europe. How limited their impact on the financial markets may seem, it does not feel normal. A roundup among my AF Advisors colleagues reveals a host of different peculiarities this year that are more or less relevant to our sector. This article is only available in Dutch.
